Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Hilo man, 31 year-old Gavin Kekoaokalani Rudy Calicdan, was sentenced to serve a ten (10) year prison term in relation to a series of property crimes that occurred in 2020 and 2021.
On April 8, 2022, Calicdan pleaded “Guilty” to eight ( 8 ) felony offenses including two counts of Criminal Property Damage in the First Degree (damaged a subsidized police vehicle and damaged an apartment building during an emergency period), three counts of Unauthorized Possession of Confidential Personal Information (possessed without authorization, confidential personal information of another person, including a driver’s license and credit cards), and a single count each of Theft in the First Degree (exert unauthorized control over a Toyota 4Runner, the value of which exceeded $20,000, with intent to deprive the owner of the property), Theft in the Second Degree (theft of merchandise belonging to a retail establishment, the value of which exceeded $750), and Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree (possession of any amount of methamphetamine). Calicdan also previously pleaded “No Contest” to a single count of Theft in the Second Degree (theft of merchandise belonging to a retail establishment, the value of which exceeded $750) on August 13, 2020. At the time of the commission of these crimes, Calicdan was already on felony probation for Assault in the Second Degree.
The two most serious offenses, Criminal Property Damage in the First Degree and Theft in the First Degree, are both class B felony offenses which carry a maximum penalty of a ten (10) year prison term.
