Hawaii Island, Tuesday, January 28, 2025 – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flood Watch and High Wind Watch for Hawaii Island, effective Wednesday night through Friday morning, prompting local authorities to warn residents of potential hazards associated with severe weather conditions.

As heavy rains are expected, residents in flood-prone areas are urged to prepare for flooding. The NWS advises that road closures may occur without notice, and emphasizes the critical safety message: Do not attempt to cross flowing water in a vehicle or on foot—“Turn around, don’t drown.” In addition, with the threat of lightning, the safest place to be is indoors.

The High Wind Watch warns that damaging winds could uproot trees and down power lines, leading to widespread power outages. Residents are encouraged to take precautionary measures to protect their property, including securing loose objects or moving them to shelter. Local officials are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as conditions change. Community members are reminded to stay vigilant and heed any warnings from emergency services.

Stay safe, Hawaii!
