Hawaii Island, HI – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Wind Advisory for portions of Hawaii Island, including the North and South Kohala, Hamakua, and Ka’u districts. The advisory goes into effect Tuesday morning and will remain in place through Wednesday morning.

The NWS warns that sustained winds of at least 30 mph and frequent gusts of 50 mph or higher are expected during the advisory period. These strong winds pose a potential safety risk and residents in the affected areas are urged to take necessary precautions.

Residents and visitors in the Kohala, Hamakua, and Ka’u districts are advised to exercise extreme caution while driving. Debris, downed trees, and utility lines may be present, posing a hazard to motorists and pedestrians.

Authorities are also reminding the public to stay clear of any downed utility lines and to report all identified hazards to the appropriate authorities.
