Hilo, Hawai’i – March 14, 2025 – Hawai’i Island Police are conducting an island-wide search for Christopher Lucrisia, a 39-year-old man suspected of shooting a police officer earlier today. The shooting occurred at a financial institution adjacent to the Prince Kuhio Plaza in Hilo.
Lucrisia, described as a Puerto Rican male, 5’10” tall, weighing 250 pounds, with green eyes and black hair, is considered armed and dangerous. Police are urging the public to not approach him and to immediately call 911 if he is sighted.
The incident began earlier today when Lucrisia allegedly shot a police officer two times. He initially fled the scene as a passenger in a white Chevy pickup truck with license plate number ZLD014. The driver of the pickup truck was also male.
Later, police received information that Lucrisia may have been traveling in a 1999 golden Honda Civic with blacked-out windows. An attempt to stop the vehicle led to a high-speed chase spanning two districts, from Puna to Hilo. The pursuit involved multiple police units and ended at the intersection of Leilani and Manono Streets when the Civic’s tires gave out.
According to police reports, individuals exited the vehicle, and a foot pursuit ensued. Two female passengers and the driver were apprehended. The driver reportedly identified Lucrisia as having been in the vehicle.
Following the vehicle pursuit, officers focused their search efforts on the area of Manono and Leilani Streets in Hilo, conducting a thorough search of homes in the vicinity. As of 2:25 p.m., police activity in the Manono and Leilani Streets area has concluded, with the search area now expanded island-wide.
The injured officer is in serious but stable condition and has been airlifted to Queen’s Hospital on Oahu for further treatment of a head injury.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Christopher Lucrisia is urged to call 911 immediately. Do not approach the suspect.
