Hilo Man Charged with Multiple Counts of Failure to Register as a Covered Offender

HILO, HAWAII – A Hilo man with a prior conviction for sexual assault has been charged with multiple counts of failing to comply with covered offender registration requirements. Everett Akimseu, 64, appeared in Hilo Circuit Court on Monday afternoon, where his bail was maintained at $35,000.00.

Akimseu is accused of failing to comply with registration requirements between April 2021 and December 2024. He was charged via Information with seven counts of Failure to Comply With Covered Offender Registration Requirements.

This charge is classified as a Class C felony, carrying a potential penalty of either four years probation and up to twelve months in jail, or a five-year prison term.

Akimseu was ordered to return to court for Further Proceedings on June 17, 2025.

Authorities are reminding the public that the charges are merely allegations, and Akimseu is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The arrest was made by Detective Kelsey Kobayashi of the Area I Juvenile Aid Section of the Hawai‘i Police Department. Investigator Kelly Lawton of the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney handled the felony investigation. Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Ha‘aheo Kaho‘ohalahala is prosecuting the case.
