Big Island Liquor Commission to Review New and Transfer Applications

Hilo, Hawai’i – The Liquor Commission of the County of Hawai’i will convene on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. in the Hilo Meeting Room at the Department of Liquor Control, located at Hilo Lagoon Centre, 101 Aupuni Street, Unit 230, Hilo, Hawai’i. The meeting promises a full agenda, including public hearings and preliminary reviews of several applications for new liquor licenses and transfers.

The meeting will offer opportunities for public comment on specific agenda items. Interested individuals can provide testimony in person at the meeting, or submit written testimony via email (cohdlc@hawaiicounty.gov), fax (808-961-8684), or mail/walk-in to the Department of Liquor Control by 12:00 noon on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. The Commission requests that testifiers clearly indicate the agenda item their testimony addresses, submitting separate testimony for each item. All testimony received, regardless of submission time, will be included in the permanent record.

The public hearings section of the agenda includes consideration of the following applications:

  • Application No. 24-20: Wyatt’s Place LLC, seeking an Original Restaurant General liquor license (Category B1) for Wyatt’s Place at 17-4003 Ahuahu Place, Kurtistown.
  • Application No. 24-25: Kona Cocktail Academy LLC, looking to acquire an Original Retail General liquor license for Big Island Bottle Shop located at 75-5729 Ali’i Drive, #C104, Kailua-Kona.
  • Application No. T24-26: Umekes Airport LLC, seeking a Sale and Transfer of the Dispenser General liquor license (Category A) currently held by Volume Services, Inc., dba Centerplate – Aloha, for Umekes KOA at the Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole.
  • Application No. T24-30: Sakura Kona LLC, requesting a Sale and Transfer of the Restaurant Beer and Wine liquor license (Category A) currently held by Sakura Japanese Restaurant Inc., dba Sakura Japanese Restaurant, for the location at Crossroads Shopping Center, 75-1027 Henry Street, #108B, Kailua-Kona.

The Commission will also conduct preliminary hearings for:

  • Application No. 24-32: One Spot Hawaii LLC, for an Original Retail General liquor license for One Spot (Retail) at 28-2903 Hawai’i Belt Road, Pepe’ekeo.
  • Application No. 24-33: One Spot Hawaii LLC, for an Original Dispenser General liquor license (Category B1) for One Spot (Dispenser), also at 28-2903 Hawai’i Belt Road, Pepe’ekeo.
  • Application No. 24-34: Reel Aloha Poke and Fish Co. LLC, seeking an Original Restaurant General liquor license (Category B1) for Reel Aloha Poke and Fish Co. at 81-6641 Hawai’i Belt Road, #5, Kealakekua.
  • Application No. 24-36: Tommy Bahama R&R Holdings, Inc., for an Original Restaurant General liquor license (Category B1) for Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar at 69-201 Waikoloa Beach Drive, Suite A-1, Waikoloa.
  • Application No. T24-37: LBC Volcano LLC, requesting a Sale and Transfer of the Restaurant General liquor license (Category B1) currently held by ‘Ohelo Café LLC dba ‘Ohelo Café for Lanikai Brewing Company located at 19-4005 Haunani Road, Volcano.

In addition to these hearings, the commission will address standard procedural items, including approval of minutes, addenda, and supplemental agendas, as well as potential unfinished and new business.

The Commission has scheduled their next meetings for June 5, 2025, in Kona, and July 3, 2025, in Hilo.
