The County of Hawaiʻi Department of Parks and Recreation regrets to inform the public that the Kawamoto Pool in Hilo will be temporarily closed due to an unanticipated mechanical issue. Staff is working diligently to address water quality and water clarity issues following an unexpected shutdown of the pool’s filtration system Sunday night. The Department sincerely appreciates the community’s patience and understanding as we work through this issue to restore safe swimming conditions at the facility. The earliest the pool may potentially reopen would be Monday, April 25.

As the NAS Swimming Pool in Hilo is currently closed pending an upcoming major renovation project, the County swimming pools at Laupāhoehoe and Pāhoa Aquatic Center are the nearest options for those that want access to a public swimming pool. Hours of operation and contact information for these pools can be found via https://www.parks.hawaiicounty.gov/facilities-parks/aquatics.

A public notice will be issued when the pool has been restored to safe swimming conditions.
