HILO, Hawaiʻi – The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Statement for all districts of Hawaiʻi Island, effective through an unspecified forecasted end date. Residents and property owners along the coastline are advised to take precautions.

This statement comes as a result of a combination of seasonally higher tides and a southern swell. These conditions are expected to affect shorelines, particularly during periods of high tide, which will occur daily between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

While conditions are not currently anticipated to reach High Surf Advisory levels, the National Weather Service notes that a High Surf Advisory may be issued later in the week should conditions escalate.

Property owners whose assets are vulnerable to coastal flooding are strongly advised to take proactive measures to mitigate the effects of potential inundation. This includes, but is not limited to, moving canoes, outdoor furniture, and equipment away from the shoreline to higher ground.

The public will be informed as weather and coastal conditions change.
