During the week of November 15, 2021, through November 21, 2021, Hawai`i Island police arrested fourteen (14) motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 962 DUI arrests compared with 884 during the same period last year. This is an increase of 8.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 716 major accidents so far this year compared with 691 during the same period last year, an increase of 3.6 percent.
To date, there were 25 fatal crashes, resulting in 25 fatalities, compared with 14 fatal crashes, resulting in 14 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 78.6 percent for fatal crashes, and 78.6 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
