Hilo, Hawai’i – Kaipo Pomroy, 36, of Hilo, has been charged with criminal property damage and resisting an order to stop following a police pursuit on March 14, 2025.
According to police reports, Pomroy allegedly operated a gold-colored Honda Civic that struck a police subsidized vehicle, a Chevy Silverado pickup. The collision caused damage to the front passenger door, front right tire, and axle of the Silverado. The pursuit ended near the intersection of Leilani and Manono Streets, where Pomroy and two female passengers exited the Honda Civic.
All three were arrested nearby, but the two women were later released pending further investigation. Police later determined the pursuit was unrelated to a firearms incident that occurred earlier that morning at the Prince Kuhio Plaza parking lot, in front of First Hawaiian Bank.
Pomroy appeared in Hilo Circuit Court on Monday. His bail was maintained at $70,000 and he was ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing on March 19, 2025.
He is charged with Criminal Property Damage in the First Degree and Resisting Order to Stop in the First Degree. Prosecutors have indicated that if convicted as charged, Pomroy may face a mandatory prison term and be ineligible for probation.
Criminal Property Damage in the First Degree is a Class B felony carrying a maximum penalty of a ten-year prison term. Resisting Order to Stop in the First Degree is a Class C felony with a maximum penalty of a five-year prison term.
“The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty,” stated the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney in a press release.
Detective Charisse Wakita of the Hawai‘i Police Department’s Vice-East division led the felony investigation. Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Heipua Ah Loy is prosecuting the case.
