Hawaiʻi Island Police Made 22 Arrest for DUI This Past Week. 5 Resulting from Traffic Accidents

During the week of April 26, 2021, through May 2, 2021, Hawai`i Island police arrested 22 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Five of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Three of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 427 DUI arrests compared with 299 during the same period last year, an increase of 42.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

Island Total 22 427

There have been 267 major accidents so far this year compared with 280 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.6 percent.

To date, there were 8 fatal crashes, resulting in 8 fatalities, compared with 8 fatal crashes, resulting in 8 fatalities for the same time last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island-wide.
