The Hawai’i County Council is set to vote on a proposal to award $10.5 million in grant funding to nonprofit organizations working on housing and homelessness issues. The funds, derived from Residential Tier Two property tax revenues, would be distributed as 15 grants to 9 different nonprofit groups. If approved, these funds will help support various programs aimed at addressing homelessness and improving housing availability in the county.
The vote will take place during the Council’s upcoming meeting on January 7, 2025, with the regular Council session continuing on January 8, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. Both meetings will be held in the Council Room at 25 Aupuni St., Hilo. Members of the public are invited to participate in the process by submitting testimony. Oral testimony via Zoom can be provided by contacting the County Clerk’s office by noon on January 6 for committee meetings and by noon on January 7 for the full Council meeting. Written testimony must be submitted by noon on January 6.
