Hawaii Island Visitor Sees a Piece of Hawaii Not on Tours. The Cell Block, as He is Charged with Manslaughter

Hawaiʻi Island police have charged 37-year-old Benjamin Fleming of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with manslaughter in connection with the death of a 30-year-old man following an altercation that took place Monday, March 29, 2021, in Kailua-Kona.

On Monday, March 29, Fleming was arrested along with 31-year-old Alexander Germany-Wald, of Boston, Massachusetts, on suspicion of manslaughter.

After further investigation and conferral with prosecutors, on Tuesday, March 30, Germany-Wald was released from police custody with no charges and detectives charged Fleming with manslaughter. His bail was set at $250,000 and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for this morning, March 31, 2021.

The identity of the 30-year-old male victim is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.
