Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park Seeks Witness in Hit-and-Run

Do you have any information about a hit-and-run incident that occurred near Nāmakanipaio Campground and Highway 11 this morning?

A bicyclist was severely injured after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run incident within Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. National Park Service law enforcement officers have launched an investigation and urge anyone with information to come forward.

The incident occurred around 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, within park boundaries at the intersection of Highway 11 and the road to Nāmakanipaio Campground.

The vehicle was described by witnesses as gold-colored sedan. The bicyclist is a 70-year-old male from Volcano.
