Hawaiʻi Island State Highways and Roads Lane Closures Announced for June 28 – July 3 Week

HILO, Hawaiʻi – June 27, 2025 – The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced upcoming lane closures on state highways and roads across Hawaiʻi Island for the week of June 28 – July 4, 2025. Motorists are advised to plan their commutes accordingly.

Please Note: In observance of the July 4th holiday, there will be no contraflow or lane closures on that day, unless specifically permitted for emergency work. All project schedules are subject to change without further notice and are weather permitting. A map of lane closures is available at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/.


Hilo Area:

  • Kanoelehua Avenue (Route 11): Pocket closure possible in either direction between mile post 3.5 to 3.6 (near Kilauea Avenue and Hale Manu Drive) from Monday, June 30 to Thursday, July 3, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for island and marking maintenance.
  • Puainako Street (Route 2000): Single lane closure possible in either direction between mile post 0.5 to 2.2 (near Kanoelehua Avenue and Komohana Street) from Monday, June 30 to Thursday, July 3, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for striping and new raised pavement marker installation.

Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) – South Hilo/Kaʻu/Kona:

  • Pahala (Weekend Work): Single lane closure possible in either direction between mile post 46 to 48 (near Kapapala Ranch Road) on Saturday, June 28, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for grass cutting.
  • Pahala: Single lane closure possible in either direction between mile post 48 to 50 from Monday, June 30 to Thursday, July 3, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for grass cutting.
  • Honaunau (Weekend Work): Single lane closure possible in either direction between mile post 97 to 100 (near Haleili Road and Waea Dump) on Saturday, June 28, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for grass cutting.
  • Honaunau: Single lane closure possible in either direction between mile post 97 and 104 (near Haleili Road and Filipino Clubhouse Road) from Monday, June 30 to Thursday, July 3, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for safety improvements.
  • Captain Cook: Single lane closure possible in either direction between mile post 108 to 109 (near Government Main Road and Koa Road) from Monday, June 30 to Thursday, July 3, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for grass cutting.

Volcano Road (Route 11) – Mountain View:

  • Mountain View (Weekend Work): Single lane closure possible in either direction between mile post 17 to 21 (near Mauna Kea Drive and Kahaualea Road) on Saturday, June 28, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for mowing grass and shoulder work.
  • Mountain View: Single lane closure possible in either direction between mile post 19 to 21 from Monday, June 30 to Thursday, July 3, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for mowing grass and shoulder work.

Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) – Hamakua:

  • Laupahoehoe to Ookala (Weekend Work): Single lane closure possible in either direction between mile post 25 to 29.4 (near Puualaea Homestead Road and Niu Village Road) on Saturday, June 28, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for grass cutting.
  • Honokaa (Weekend Work): Single lane closure possible in either direction between mile post 42 to 43 (near Honokaa Country Club) on Saturday, June 28, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for tree trimming and shoulder work.
  • Honokaa: Single lane closure possible in either direction between mile post 42 to 46 (near Mamalahoa Highway and Hamakua Forest Reserve) from Monday, June 30 to Thursday, July 3, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for tree trimming, grass cutting, and shoulder work.

Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) – Waimea/South Kohala:

  • Waimea: Single lane closure possible in either direction between mile post 0 to 1 (near Lindsey Road and Lalamilo Farm Road) from Monday, June 30 to Thursday, July 3, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for paving and striping.
  • South Kohala: Single lane closure possible in either direction between mile post 12.2 to 16.4 (near Saddle Road) from Monday, June 30 to Thursday, July 3, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for paving and striping.

Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250) – Kapaau:

  • Kapaau (Weekend Work): Single lane closure possible in either direction between mile post 8 to 10 (near Kohala Ranch Road) on Saturday, June 28, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for tree trimming and shoulder work.
  • Kapaau: Single lane closure possible in either direction between mile post 8 to 10 (near Kohala Ranch Road) from Monday, June 30 to Thursday, July 3, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for tree trimming and shoulder work.
