The National Weather Service has extended the High Surf Warning for all west-facing shores of Hawaii Island until Monday evening. The warning spans from Upolu Point in North Kohala to South Point in Kaʻū, as large swells continue to impact the area.
In response to the hazardous conditions, several beach parks have been closed to ensure public safety. Kahaluʻu Beach Park in Kona remains closed due to debris and dangerous surf conditions. Additionally, Laʻaloa Beach Park and Kua Bay in Kona are also shut down for the day. Officials caution that other west-facing beach parks may close without notice as conditions evolve.
Authorities urge residents and visitors to exercise caution and follow instructions from Ocean Safety Officials. As always, the public is reminded of the adage: “When in doubt, don’t go out.”
