High Surf Warning for West facing Shores of the Big Island

A High Surf Warning has been issued for West Facing shores of the Big Island from 3:40 am Tuesday to 6:00 pm Wednesday, February 16, 2022.

A large west-northwest swell has arrived in the islands early this morning and will continue to build through the day today. The swell will bring warning or advisory level surf to exposed shores of most islands through Wednesday, before lowering Wednesday night.

The Warning also affects north and west facing shores of Niʻihau, Kauai and, Oahu.

A high surf advisory has been issued for north and west-facing shores for the island of Molokai and the north-facing shores of Maui.

Surf building to 22 to 28 feet along north facing shores of Niihau and Kauai, and 20 to 25 feet along north facing shores of Oahu. Surf building to 18 to 24 feet along west facing shores of Niihau and Kauai, and 15 to 20 feet along west facing shores of Oahu.

Expect ocean water occasionally sweeping across portions of beaches, very strong breaking waves, and strong longshore and rip currents. Breaking waves may occasionally impact harbors making navigating the harbor channel dangerous.

Affected beaches include but are not limited to Aliʻi Beach Park, Ehukai Beach, Haleʻiwa Beach, Maili Beach, Makaha Beach, Nanakuli Beach, Depot’s Beach, Pokai Beach, Keawaʻula Beach, Sunset Beach, Chun’s Reef, Laniakea Beach, Waimea Bay, KeʻWaena Beach, Haʻena Beach Park, Keʻe Beach, Hanalei Bay, Anahola Beach Park, Kealia Beach Park, Lydgate Beach, Lydgate Pond, Poipu Beach Park, Salt Pond Beach Park
