A Hilo man, 33 year-old Jason Hall, was charged with sexual assault, abuse, and unlawful imprisonment. The charges stem from an incident that occurred on January 2, 2023 at a Hilo residence.

The charges against Hall stem from an incident reported on Monday evening, January 2, when Hilo patrol officers responded to the Hilo Medical Center after a woman went to the Emergency Room stating she had been sexually assaulted. The 27-year-old female victim reported being involved in a verbal argument with Hall that escalated to where Hall placed his hands around her neck, impeding her ability to breathe. He also forced himself on her and sexually assaulted her against her will. Following the incident, Hall refused to let the victim leave to go to the hospital for treatment by pushing the victim back into her room.

Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that the Complaint alleges, Hall was charged with Sexual Assault in the First Degree, Felony Abuse of a Family or Household Member (by causing bodily injury by impeding the normal breathing or circulation of the blood by applying pressure on the throat), misdemeanor Abuse of a Family or Household Member, and Unlawful Imprisonment in the Second Degree. Sexual Assault in the First Degree is a class A felony offense and carries a penalty of a twenty-year prison term.

Hall remains in police custody pending his initial court appearance scheduled for to make his initial appearance on Friday afternoon January 6, 2023, in Hilo District Court. He remains in custody in lieu of $65,000.00 bail.

The investigation was initiated by South Hilo Patrol and the felony investigation was led by Detective Kevin Brodie, Area I Juvenile Aid Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Heipua Ah Loy.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
