Today, Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Honoka’a man, 29-year-old Kulike Ventura-Tampos was charged in relation to a burglary and stolen car incidents that occurred between October 2nd and 4th in Laupahoehoe.
As the Complaint alleges, Ventura-Tampos was charged with Burglary in the First Degree and Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Vehicle in the First Degree. At the time of his arrest, Ventura-Tampos was also arrested on two unrelated outstanding warrants, a warrant for revocation of his felony probation and another for a district court non-appearance.
Ventura-Tampos made his initial appearance today in Hilo District Court. Judge M. Kanani Laubach denied Ventura-Tampos’ request for supervised release, maintained his bail at $35,000.00, and ordered that he appear for his preliminary hearing on November 9th in Hilo District Court.
The investigation was handled by Officers Angitau Faanunu and John Kari, North Hilo/Hamakua Patrol and Detective Blaine Morishita, Area I Criminal Investigation Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Shannon Kagawa.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
