Late last night, Hawaii Fire Department responded to a report of a garage fire on Ainamalu street in South Kohala.

Around 9:26 pm the call was received Hawaii Fire Department and by 9:35 the Company 14 and Batallion Cheif 2 were on the scene to find a single-story, 3 bedrooms 2200 square-foot structure with its garage fully engulfed already spreading to the main house.

HPD reports that around 35% of the home was engulfed, and its two occupants evacuated from the home. An offensive interior attack was then used to bring the fire under control. The fire was then contained to 45% of the original structure. High winds were said to contribute to rapid-fire expansion. Additional companies assisted with salvage and overhaul. The scene was then turned over to Inspectors. Occupants denied assistance from Red Cross.
