Kailua Pier Coroner’s Inquest

Hawai‘i Island police report that a coroner’s inquest into the April 2021 death of man at Kailua Pier has been completed.

On Friday, April 30, 2021, at 1:16 p.m. Kona Patrol and Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) officers responded to a call at the Kailua Pier of a man in need of medical attention. Upon arrival, Hawaiʻi Fire Department personnel transported the man, later identified as 73-year-old Stephen Lacey of Kailua-Kona, to the Kona Community Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Upon conclusion of an autopsy and receipt of toxicology reports, it was determined that Lacey died from a medical condition and the manner of death was ruled as natural.
