Hilo, Hawai’i – Forty-year-old Joseph Williams, also known as Clarence Clayton Williams, of Kalapana, is facing a slew of felony charges following an incident on April 24, 2025, at a residence on Ala Iki Road in Kalapana. Williams was arrested and charged with criminal property damage, terroristic threatening, burglary, assault, and unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.
Williams made his initial court appearance in Hilo District Court on Monday afternoon. His bail was maintained at $96,000.00, and he was ordered to return for a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 30, 2025.
According to the complaint, Williams is charged with Criminal Property Damage in the First Degree, Burglary in the First Degree, Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree, Unauthorized Entry into a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree, and Assault in the Third Degree.
Criminal Property Damage in the First Degree and Burglary in the First Degree, the most serious charges, are classified as Class B felonies. Conviction on either charge carries a potential sentence of either a ten-year prison term or four years of probation with up to eighteen months in jail.
It is important to note that the charges against Williams are merely allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The case was initiated by Puna Patrol Officers Rodney DeLima, Jr. and Quintin Carvalho. The felony investigation was spearheaded by Detective Kimo Keli‘ipa‘akaua of the Area I Criminal Investigation Section of the Hawai‘i Police Department. Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys Andrew Son and Lucas Burns are prosecuting the case.
