Kapue Stream Gets ‘Unknown Volume’ of Overflow Wastewater

“An unknown volume of wastewater overflowed from a nearby manhole and may have entered the stream and adjacent coastline,” a release from the DOH stated. The overflow happened below Kapue Bridge and Lyman Bay in Papaikou.

The Department of Health (DOH) is advising those on the Big Island to stay out of Kapue Stream waters due to a wastewater overflow. Officials have posted warning signs in the area. The public should remain out of the affected waters until the signs have been removed.
