Hawaiʻi Island police have located 30-year-old Maria Girangaya of Ocean View who was wanted for several outstanding warrants, as well as questioning in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation.
On Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., members of Area II Special Enforcement Unit located Girangaya at a residence on Plumeria Road in the Kailua-Kona area. Girangaya was arrested for her outstanding warrants at the Kealakehe Police Station as detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigation Section continued pursuing several ongoing investigations in which Girangaya was a suspect.
On Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at 7:30 a.m. after conferring with prosecutors, Girangaya was charged with two counts of criminal contempt of court. She was also charged with a single count of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle stemming from the removal of a sport utility vehicle from South Point on April 1, 2021. The vehicle was recovered from a property in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates on April 20, after tips from the public were received regarding the vehicle’s location.
Girangaya’s bail was set at $3,300. She is scheduled to make her initial court appearance on Wednesday, April 21, in Kona District Court.
