Last night a call came into the Hawaii Fire Department around 8:10 pm of a structure on fire on Kawailani St. In the Waiakea area of the Big Island.
As traffic was rerouted to Puainako and Haihai, HFD performed an offensive attack to contain the flames to the building and second floor. The fire was reported to be brought under control within 40 mins of the first unit’s arrival and an overhaul was performed to the structure. There were no reported injuries.
There is no reported cause of the fire as the fire remains under investigation.
A Facebook post about the affected family a family member wrote…
“Friends and family. I need help please. My sisters home just burned down. Her and her 3 boys lost EVERYTHING tonight. Please pray for them with all your hearts tonight. By the grace of God no one was hurt and the amazing firemen and police men were able to save dogs and cats! Fireman Travis Santiago even recovered my nephews cell phone! Officer Matias saved the kitty and Officer Narimatsu went down and bought some slippers and toothbrushes and what small essentials he could gather from the store down here. And Fire Inspector Henderson is helping get her started with Red Cross and seeing what important paperwork he can salvage is anything. These are just to name a few of these amazing men and women tonight. So please as we begin to try and get things situated, pray for their strength and healing through this
