Keauhou Man Charged with 16 Offenses

Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Keauhou man, 28 year-old Keoni Patrick Keli’ima Cassidy was charged with attempted distribution of methamphetamine, and heroin. Possession of fentanyl, Suboxone and anabolic steroids, and firearm offenses in relation to a November 18th incident in Kona.

On November 18, 2021 at approximately 12:40 p.m., Kona Patrol Officers were dispatched to a business establishment located in the 75-0900 block of Henry Street, Kailua-Kona, to check on the welfare of a male party passed out in his vehicle. Officers made contact with a male party identified as, Keoni Cassidy, M-28, of Keauhou who was asleep in his vehicle. Officers observed a methamphetamine smoking pipe on Cassidy’s lap and he was subsequently arrested and transported to the Kealakehe Police Station pending investigation.

The Area II Vice Section continued the investigation and conducted a search of Cassidy’s vehicle. During the search, police recovered 112.8 grams (3.97 ounces) of heroin, 59.9 grams (2.11 ounces) of methamphetamine, 12.5 fentanyl pills, 1.1 grams of marijuana, 0.5 grams of cocaine, 37 Suboxone pills, 30 Oxymetholone pills (Anabaloc steroid), 3 vials of testosterone (Steroid) , a firearm, ammunition, and various drug paraphernalia.

As the Complaint alleges, Cassidy was charged with sixteen (16) offenses including, two counts each of Attempted Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the First Degree (attempted distribution of more than an eighth of an ounce of methamphetamine and heroin), Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the First Degree (possession of more than an ounce of methamphetamine and heroin), Promoting a Harmful Drug in the Third Degree (possession of 25 or more capsules, tablets, or dosage units of suboxone and/or buprenorphine and oxymetholone and/or testosterone), three counts of Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree (possession of any amount of fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine), and a single count each of Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony Drug Offense, Place to Keep an Unloaded Firearm (a Remington semi-automatic 12 gauge shotgun), Ownership or Possession of Firearm and Ammunition Prohibited (person under treatment or counseling for addition, abuse, or dependence on drugs), Place to Keep Ammunition, Promoting a Detrimental Drug in the Third Degree, Permit to Acquire Firearm, and Registration Mandatory.
Cassidy remains in custody in lieu of $322,550.00 bail pending his initial appearance today in Kona District Court.
The investigation was lead by Officer John Harvey, Kona Patrol and Detective Kelsey Kobayashi, Area
II Vice Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Chase Murray.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
