Keaukaha Woman Charged in Relation to Theft and Altering Identity of a Dodge Pickup and Unauthorized Possession of a Check

by Thunda
Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Keaukaha woman, 25 year-old Abrien Alvarez was charged in relation to the theft and unauthorized operation of a Dodge pickup, that was originally reported stolen on November 29th from a Pahoa business.
Review of court records indicates that Alvarez is currently pending three other unrelated felony cases, including two unauthorized control of propelled vehicle incidents, and was recently granted supervised release over Prosecutor’s objections on November 22nd.
As the Complaint alleges, Alvarez was charged with Theft in the Second Degree (theft of property valued greater than $750, a Dodge pickup), Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Vehicle in the First Degree (unauthorized control of a Dodge pickup without the owner’s consent), and Unauthorized Possession of Confidential or Personal Information (possession of a check without authorization). At the time of Alvarez’s arrest, she was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for an unrelated District Court matter.
Alvarez remains in custody in lieu of $30,000.00 bail pending her initial appearance today in Hilo District Court.
The investigation was initiated by South Hilo and Puna Patrol. Alvarez’s arrest and the follow up investigation was handled by Officer Christopher Fukumoto, Community Policing, and Officers Michael Sailer and Sheldon Adviento and Detectives John Balberde and Keith Simeona, Special Enforcement Unit, Area I Criminal Investigation Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Soong.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney remains dedicated to the pursuit of justice with integrity and commitment. Anyone having information to assist local law enforcement should call Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300.
