Hawai’i Island police have arrested and charged 34-year-old Kevin Koseda of Kealakekua following an incident that took place Monday afternoon, August 7, 2023, in Kailua-Kona.

Shortly before 1:00 p.m. Monday, Kona patrol officers responded to a report of a disorderly male trying to provoke a fight with several people near Ali‘i Drive and Likana Lane.

Upon arriving on scene, the victim told officers that Koseda had been harassing him all day, repeatedly asking him for marijuana and methamphetamine. The victim further related that he did not know Koseda, who at one point verbally threatened to kick the victim in the head.

After threatening the victim, Koseda kicked him in the forehead and demanded all his valuables. The victim refused to comply, which resulted in Koseda attempting to pull the victim’s backpack out from under his legs.

Koseda then threatened the victim once more that if he didn’t give him his property, he was going to knee him in the head. The victim was then struck in the head with a knee, which resulted in pain, swelling, and bruising.

Koseda was unsuccessful in taking the victim’s property and was still in the vicinity when police officers arrived on scene. He was subsequently arrested and taken into police custody.

On Tuesday morning, August 8, 2023 after conferring with County Prosecutor’s Office, Koseda was charged with the following offenses:

  • Second-degree robbery
  • Second-degree terroristic threatening
  • Third-degree assault
  • Fourth-degree theft
  • Harassment

His bail was set at $12,500 and he remains in police custody pending his initial court appearance on Wednesday, August 9, in Kona District Court.

Police ask anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact Kona Patrol Officer Elijah Won of at (808) 326-4646 ext. 253 or email Elijah.Won@hawaiicounty.gov.
