Today, Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Kurtistown man, 44-year-old Sony Raymond, was charged for sexual assault-related to a June 5th incident that occurred at a Hilo residence.
As the Complaint alleges, Raymond was charged with a single count of Sexual Assault in the Second Degree, which is defined as knowingly subjecting another person to an act of sexual penetration by compulsion.
Raymond is scheduled to make his initial appearance on Tuesday in Hilo District Court. He remains in custody in lieu of $25,000.00 bail.
The investigation was handled by Detective Aaron Carvalho of the Area I Juvenile Aid Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Ha‘aheo Kaho‘ohalahala, Supervisor of the Sexual Assault Unit.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
