Today, Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Mountain View man, 36 year-old Malani Tavui, was charged with eight offenses related to a string offenses that occurred on June 11th.
As the Complaint alleges, Tavui was charged with eight offenses including Burglary in the First Degree and two counts of Assault in the Second Degree for assaulting a man with a knife after entering his residence, Abuse of Family or Household Member, Kidnapping, Interference with Reporting an Emergency or Crime, Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree, involving a knife and/or simulated firearm, and Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree for possessing methamphetamine.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Tavui is scheduled to make his initial appearance today in Hilo District Court. He remains in custody in lieu of $118,000.00 bail.
The investigation was handled by Detective Clarence Acob of the Area I Juvenile Aid Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Ha‘aheo Kaho‘ohalahala.
