Judge Maintains Bail for Mountain View Woman Charged for Alleged Car Break-ins and Firearm Theft 11 Days After Her Last Release

A Mountain View woman has been accused of a string of crimes from petty misdemeanor to felonies resulting in 4 different arrests this month alone. The most recent arrest resulting in 10 additional charges.

Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a 34-year-old Maria Coyaso, was charged on August 21st with two counts of Unauthorized Entry Into Motor Vehicle in the First Degree, two counts of Theft in the First Degree (theft of firearm), two counts of Ownership or Possession Prohibited of Firearm, one count of Ownership or Possession Prohibited of Ammunition, and three counts of Theft in the Fourth Degree.

A review of court records indicates that at the time of her recent arrest, Coyaso was on supervised release pending felony charges for three unrelated matters. She was held in custody in lieu of $54,750.00 bail.

Today at Coyaso arraignment and plea hearing. Deputy Public Defender Jonas J. Krave made an oral motion for Coyaso’s release under supervision or bail reduction. Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Andrew D. Son made an objection for the State. Judge Jeffrey Hawk denied the defense’s oral motion. JDPC provided by State that reflects probable cause was previously found for further detention of Defendant. Defendant ordered to appear for Preliminary Hearing on 25-Aug-2021 at 02:30 pm. Bail Maintained at $54,750

The investigation was handled by Officer Paul Rose, Puna Patrol, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney R. Winston Albright.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
