Emergency responders from the Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) swiftly mobilized to a reported structure fire at 15-0844 Kahakai Blvd. in Hawaiian Beaches, Pahoa on Monday evening. At approximately 8:41 PM local time, units from HFD were dispatched to the scene, where they encountered a blazing inferno engulfing a residential property.
Upon arrival, Company 10 firefighters were met with heavy flames emanating from the eaves and windows of a 40’x25′ wood-framed single-story home. Initial reports indicated that no individuals were found in the vicinity of the structure, prompting an immediate transitional attack by the responding units.
The inferno was successfully contained and extinguished through a coordinated effort involving additional support from Company 18 and Company 05. Salvage operations were conducted to minimize property damage, and thorough searches were performed to ensure there was no extension of the fire to nearby structures.
According to HFD officials, both water and electrical utilities were shut off to the affected structure to prevent any further hazards. The estimated damage to the property is valued at approximately $100,000. However, firefighters managed to save approximately $150,000 worth of property, preventing further devastation.
Hawaii Police Department (HPD) representatives at the scene suggested that the fire may have been caused by recent squatter activity; however, an official investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause and origin of the fire.
As of the latest updates, there were no reported injuries resulting from the incident. Fire officials continue to urge caution and vigilance in residential areas to prevent such incidents from occurring.
