Kona, Hawaiʻi – The Kona Crime Prevention Committee (KCPC) has named Officer Rylan Fujii of the Hawaiʻi Police Department as its Officer of the Month for May 2025. He was celebrated for his strong investigative skills and commendable initiative in leading to the arrest of a suspect involved in a series of financial crimes.
Officer Fujii was assigned to a fraudulent credit card use case on November 25, 2024. He skillfully coordinated extensive follow-up efforts, meticulously reviewed surveillance footage, and successfully connected the theft of a victim’s bag to multiple unauthorized credit card transactions.
Demonstrating exceptional dedication, Officer Fujii took on the challenge of drafting the arrest warrant himself, a process he had not undertaken before. He proactively learned the necessary procedures and completed the warrant during his shift, all while continuing to manage his regular patrol responsibilities. Working in conjunction with a detective, he secured approval for the warrant, which ultimately led to the suspect’s arrest. The suspect was subsequently charged with 12 felony and misdemeanor offenses, including identity theft and fraudulent use of a credit card.
The KCPC noted that Officer Fujii’s initiative, hard work, and commitment exemplify the Hawaiʻi Police Department’s core values of integrity and professionalism. Chief Benjamin Moszkowicz commended Officer Fujii, along with two other officers, for their outstanding work and dedication to serving Hawaiʻi Island.
