Hawai‘i Island police have charged a 32-year-old Puna man with felony abuse and related charges stemming from an incident in Puna.

On Monday, March 15, 2021, at 9:26 p.m., Puna patrol officers responded to a report of a man threatening to kill a woman with a spear gun at a residence in Ainaloa. The woman had locked herself within the residence with three children. Upon arrival, officers heard a woman yelling for help and saw a man, later identified as Zodice K. Madeyski Jr., exit the residence.

Officers contacted the woman inside who reported that her ex-husband Madeyski had been drinking and upon locking him out of the house, he stood outside a glass door holding a spear gun and machete. It was reported that Madeyski made threatening hand gestures and then punched his way through the glass door. The woman retreated to a bedroom and locked herself in, however Madeyski broke through the bedroom door, punching her in the neck and face. She and three children then retreated to a bathroom and locked themselves in, at which point officers arrived on scene. Upon police arrival, Madeyski was arrested and held at the police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Juvenile Aid Section continued their investigation.

On Tuesday, March 16, after conferral with prosecutors, detectives charged Madeyski with assault, terroristic threatening, abuse of a family or household member, violation of an order for protection, and criminal property damage. His bail was set at $33,000 and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Wednesday, March 17.
