Police Seek Public’s Assistance in Agricultural Theft Investigation

Hawai‘i Island police are requesting the public’s assistance for information regarding an agricultural theft that occurred in Hilo on Thursday, October 7, 2021.

At 6:20 p.m. on October 7, 2021, Hilo Patrol Officers responded to a facility off Mamalahoa Highway in the Wainaku area where they discovered two men in a vehicle with over 600 pounds of bananas.  The bananas were recently picked and the men did not have a bill of sale or receipt for transport. The two suspects were identified and the bananas were recovered, however, the owners of the produce remain unknown.
