Puna Man Charged with Burglary, Unauthorized Entry into Motor Vehicle for Two Separate Incidents

Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Puna man, 19-year-old Nathanuel Chow-Guzman was charged in relation to two separate incidents, a burglary in the Hawaiian Shores Recreational Estates and an unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle in the Ainaloa subdivision that occurred between October 11th and October 12th.

As the Complaint alleges, Chow-Guzman, who has no prior criminal convictions, was charged with seven (7) offenses including Burglary in the First Degree (unauthorized entry into a dwelling with the intent to commit theft or criminal property damage), Unauthorized Entry into Motor Vehicle in the First Degree (with intent to commit theft), Unauthorized Possession of Confidential Personal Information, Criminal Trespass in the First Degree (unlawful entry into a dwelling), Criminal Property Damage in the Fourth Degree, Theft in the Fourth Degree, and Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the Third Degree (any amount of methamphetamine).

Chow-Guzman will make his initial appearance today in Hilo District Court. He remains in custody in lieu of $20,000.00 bail.

The investigation was handled by Officers Terence Scanlan and Alipate Moleni, Puna Patrol and Detective Scotty Aloy, Area I Criminal Investigation Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Soong.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
