SOUTH KOHALA, HAWAI’I – The Department of Water Supply (DWS), County of Hawai’i, has issued a Water Conservation Notice, effective immediately, for customers in South Kohala.
The affected areas include Āhualoa to Waiemi Subdivision, encompassing Honokaia, Pu‘ukapu, Nienie, Waimea Town, Lālamilo Farm Lots, portions of Mana Road, portions of Māmalahoa Highway (Hwy 19), Anekona Estates, and Kānehoa Subdivision.
The DWS is urging residents and businesses in these areas to reduce their water consumption by at least 10 percent. This measure is being implemented due to a prolonged period of low rainfall and operational difficulties with the Waimea well.
The Water Conservation Notice will remain in effect until further notice. The DWS will provide updates on the situation as necessary through its website, www.hawaiidws.org.
Residents are encouraged to adopt the following water conservation practices:
- Wash only full loads of laundry and dishes.
- Check faucets and pipes for leaks and repair them promptly.
- Avoid letting water run while washing hands, shaving, or brushing teeth.
- Reduce showering times.
Furthermore, the DWS is requesting that affected customers significantly limit water use for non-essential purposes such as dust control and irrigation. Additional water-saving tips can be found on the DWS website under the “Conservation” tab.
Customers with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the Department of Water Supply at (808) 887-3030 or (808) 961-8050 during normal business hours. For after-hour emergencies, please call (808) 961-8790. Inquiries can also be sent via email to dws@hawaiidws.org.
