Hawai‘i Island Police Seek Identity of Suspect in Kona Electronic Shopping Cart Theft

Hawai‘i Island police are investigating a theft that occurred on Saturday, March 20, 2021, shortly before 4 p.m., at a large retail store in Kailua-Kona.

At 2:43 p.m. an unidentified man was observed walking into the store and using an electronic shopping cart while he shopped. He was observed paying for merchandise and then exiting the store still operating the electronic shopping cart. He continued through the store’s parking lot and was last seen traveling west on Henry Street. The man did not have permission to remove the electronic shopping cart from the property and has since not returned the cart.

The police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the unknown suspect pictured in the surveillance photographs.

Police are asking for anyone with information about this investigation to call the police department’s non-emergency number at (808) 935-3311 or Officer Joshua Stender of Kona Patrol at (808) 326-4646 ext. 253.
