Hilo, Hawaiʻi – The County of Hawaiʻi Department of Parks and Recreation has announced that tree trimming and removal work will begin at Liliʻuokalani Gardens in Hilo starting Tuesday, July 8.

The maintenance project, to be carried out by contractor Backyard Monkey, LLC, is focused on enhancing public safety by addressing trees that pose immediate risks or require significant canopy reduction.

To facilitate this work, the one-way portion of Lihiwai Street will be closed daily from Tuesday, July 8, through Thursday, July 10, between 6 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. This closure will affect the section of Lihiwai Street located between Keliipio Place and the entrance to Isles. Walking areas adjacent to this road section will also be closed during work hours. However, access to Moku Ola (Coconut Island) and Isles will remain open.

Once the work along Lihiwai Street is completed, the project will move to the interior areas of Liliʻuokalani Gardens. During these phases, safety zones will be established within the park using appropriate signage and barricades to ensure public safety.

Park visitors are urged to exercise caution while the maintenance is underway and to adhere to all posted safety warnings and closures for their own well-being.
