NORTH KONA, HAWAI’I – Residents along Luhia Street in North Kona are advised that the Department of Water Supply will be conducting a fire hydrant flow test on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, between 11:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. (midnight).

The affected area includes customers along Luhia Street between Makala Boulevard and Kaiwi Street, including all side roads and lanes branching off of Luhia Street.

The purpose of the test is to ensure the proper functioning of fire hydrants in the area, crucial for public safety. However, residents in the affected zone may experience slightly discolored and turbid water for several hours following the test.

The Department of Water Supply advises customers to take the following precautions:

  • Refrain from washing clothes during and immediately after the test to avoid potential staining from discolored water.
  • Store a container of water for drinking purposes until the water supply returns to normal.

The Department acknowledges the temporary inconvenience this may cause and appreciates the public’s understanding.

Should residents experience any unusual problems during or after the flushing period, they are urged to contact Mr. Joshule Johnston or Mr. Dustin Kaneta-Ogata, District Supervisors, at (808) 322-0600.

Date of Test: Tuesday, May 6, 2025 Time of Test: 11:00 P.M. to 12:00 A.M. (Midnight) Affected Area: Luhia Street between Makala Boulevard and Kaiwi Street, including all side roads and lanes.
