Hawai`i Island Police have arrested and charged 35-year old Cory Dean Ruzicka, of Kailua-Kona with an array of property and narcotic offenses.
On Thursday morning (November 19) at approximately 11:00 a.m., officers from the Area 2 Criminal Investigations Section and Special Enforcement Unit located Ruzicka in the area of Sea Breeze Parkway and Koa Lane in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates Subdivision. Ruzicka was wanted on an active arrest warrant for attempted unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and criminal trespassing in the second degree stemming from an incident on November 2 on Walua Road in Kailua-Kona. Upon noticing officers, Ruzicka fled on foot through a vacant lot and lava field and was observed discarding several bags. After a foot pursuit, Ruzicka was taken into police custody. Officers recovered “brass knuckles”, along with a glass smoking pipe with crystalline residue from his person and the bags Ruzicka discarded.
Subsequent to the service of search warrants upon Ruzicka’s bags and wallet, officers located additional narcotics to include .7 gram methamphetamine, 7.5 grams marijuana, and paraphernalia used for ingesting and injecting narcotics.
In addition, Ruzicka was arrested on several other criminal offenses that occurred on November 2nd to include unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle for the theft of a pickup truck that occurred at Coconut Grove Marketplace in Kailua-Kona, for burglary in the first degree and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle relative to the theft of a Honda sport utility vehicle from a residence on Walua Road in Kailua-Kona, and the theft of merchandise from a gas station located on Mamalahoa Highway in Kealakekua.
On Friday, November 20, after conferring with the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, police charged Ruzicka with burglary in the first degree, two counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, one count of attempted unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, resisting arrest, criminal trespassing in the second degree, theft in the fourth degree, promoting a dangerous drug in the third degree, promoting a detrimental drug in the third degree, deadly weapons prohibited, prohibited acts related to drug paraphernalia, and violation of conditions of supervised release.
Ruzicka’s total bail was set at $74,250 and his initial appearance is scheduled for today, Monday, November 23, in Kona District Court.
