During the week of April 12, 2021, through April 18, 2021, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 31 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 384 DUI arrests compared with 281 during the same period last year, an increase of 36.7 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 237 major accidents so far this year compared with 262 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.5 percent.
To date, there were eight fatal crashes, resulting in eight fatalities, compared with 8 fatal crashes, resulting in 8 fatalities for the same time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island-wide.
