During the week of January 17, 2022, through January 23, 2022, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 19 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 69 DUI arrests compared with 83 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16.9 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 44 major accidents so far this year compared with 41 during the same period last year, an increase of 7.3 percent.
To date, there have been two fatal crashes, resulting in two fatalities, compared with two fatal crashes, resulting in two fatalities for the same time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
