Police Chief Paul Ferreira has announced two promotions to the rank of Assistant Chief, effective February 1, 2022.
Andrew Burian, a 31-year veteran of the department, now commands the department’s Administrative Services Bureau. Burian’s former assignments were as a police officer in South Hilo and the Area I Criminal Investigation Division, patrol sergeant in Kona, detective in the Area I Criminal Investigation Section and Area I Vice Section, detective in CIU/IA, lieutenant in Kona, South Hilo, and Community Policing, captain in Ka‘ū and Hāmākua, previously holding the post as the Technical Services Division Major and subsequently as the Acting Assistant Chief in the Administrative Services Bureau.
Kenneth Quiocho, a 29-year veteran of the department, now commands the Area I Field/Investigative Operations Bureau encompassing the department’s East Hawai‘i districts. Quiocho’s former assignments were as a police officer in Hāmākua, South Kohala, and traffic enforcement officer, field training officer in South Kohala, canine handler in Area I Vice Section, detective in Area II Criminal Investigation Section, patrol sergeant in South Kohala and the Training Section, lieutenant in Communications-Dispatch and the Accreditation Section, captain in Ka‘ū, Puna, and South Hilo, previously holding the post of Area I Field/Investigative Operations Major and subsequently as the Acting Assistant Chief of the Area I Field/Investigative Operations.
