During the week of January 31, 2022, through February 6, 2022, Hawai`i Island police arrested 19 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 105 DUI arrests compared with 133 during the same period last year, a decrease of 21.1 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 75 major accidents so far this year compared with 70 during the same period last year, an increase of 7.1 percent.
To date, there were 5 fatal crashes, resulting in 7 fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths), compared with 5 fatal crashes, resulting in 5 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents is an increase of 40 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
