Detectives with Hawai‘i Police Department Area II Vice Section arrested and charged 39-year old Christopher Herbold, of Kailua-Kona, with drug offenses after police recovered more than 73 illicit fentanyl pills, 3 grams of methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia during a narcotics investigation.
Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, Kona patrol officers received information of a man known to be associated with fentanyl, later identified as Herbold, asleep within a vehicle parked at a business in the 75-900 block of Henry Street in Kailua-Kona.
Arriving officers contacted Herbold who was sitting in the driver’s seat of a black 2009 BMW sedan parked in front of the business. Responding officers observed a smoking apparatus with a glass cylindrical shaft and bulbous end, with residue believed to be methamphetamine, in plain view within the vehicle.
Herbold was arrested and transported to the Kealakehe police station for processing while the vehicle was recovered and secured. After obtaining a search warrant for the vehicle, vice detectives recovered 73 fentanyl pills, 3.3 grams of methamphetamine, burnt fentanyl pills, and associated drug paraphernalia.
After conferring with the County Prosecutor’s Office on the morning of Thursday, May 4, Herbold was charged with:
- Second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug
- Third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug
- Prohibited acts related to drug paraphernalia
Herbold’s bail was set at $7,025 and he remains in custody at the Kealakehe Police Station pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Friday, May 5, in Kona District Court.
