“RID-A-FRIDGE” $100 CASH REBATE RECYCLING EVENT IN KEAʻAU

The County of Hawai‘i Department of Environmental Management (DEM), in partnership with Hawaiʻi Energy, announces the RID-A-FRIDGE recycling event. Residents in zip codes 96749, 96778, and 96771 can recycle old, working refrigerators or freezers and receive a $100 cash rebate per unit. The event will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Keaʻau Middle School from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is required. 

“We encourage residents located in the eligible zip codes to participate in this great program and make sure to sign up as early as possible,” said Alex White, Recycling Specialist with the County of Hawai‘i Department of Environmental Management. “Hawai‘i Energy’s Rid-A-Fridge program not only helps tackle public dumping but empowers families to reinvest in energy efficiency on their own terms.”   

Requirements to participate in the event:  

  • Hawaiʻi Island resident of the following zip codes: 96749, 96778, and 96771.  
  • Must have a Hawaiʻi Electric (HECO) account. 
  • Must register in advance. Download the registration application at: https://www.hawaiizerowaste.org/recycle/appliances/
  • Email or drop off your completed registration application by 8/20/2024. 
  • Email: denise.e.nakamura@leidos.com  
  • Drop off: County of Hawaiʻi Department of Environmental Management office, 345 Kekūanāoʻa St, Suite 41 
  • You can also mail the form to 45N King Street, Ste 500, Honolulu, HI 96817 by 8/18/24. 
  • Refrigerator or freezer must work and measure 14 ft3 or larger.
