HILO, HI – A Kurtistown man and a Hilo woman are facing felony charges in connection with the theft of a 2024 Jeep Wrangler reported stolen from Alamo Rental Car in Kona last month. Patrick John Lindsey, 37, of Kurtistown, and Krysta Macayan, 39, of Hilo, were arrested on April 2, 2025, after police recovered the stolen vehicle from a residence on Vista Drive.
According to police reports, the Jeep was reported missing sometime between March 6 and March 8, 2025.
Lindsey and Macayan made their initial appearances in Hilo District Court on April 4, 2025. While Lindsey’s bail was initially set at $59,000, Macayan was released on supervised release despite objections from the prosecution.
Both Lindsey and Macayan were later charged via Felony Information. On April 9, 2025, Lindsey appeared in Hilo Circuit Court where his bail was reduced to $15,000, again over the objection of prosecutors. He subsequently posted bail.
According to the Felony Information, Lindsey is charged with Theft in the First Degree, Unauthorized Entry Into Motor Vehicle in the Second Degree, and two counts of Theft in the Third Degree. Prosecutors have indicated that if convicted as charged, Lindsey may face a mandatory prison term and be ineligible for probation.
Macayan is charged with Theft in the First Degree, Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Vehicle in the First Degree, Driving Without a License, and two counts of Theft in the Third Degree, according to the Felony Information.
The most serious charge, Theft in the First Degree, is a Class B felony carrying a potential penalty of a ten-year prison term or four years of probation and up to eighteen months in jail.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
The case was initiated by Kona Patrol Officer Marvin Miguel. The arrest was made by Puna Patrol Officer Laura Torres. The felony investigation was handled by Detective Sybastian Keltner of the Area I Criminal Investigation Section of the Hawai‘i Police Department. Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Woodrow Pengelly is prosecuting the case.
