Today, Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Waimea man, 37-year-old Pieter Colson, was charged for unauthorized entry in a dwelling for an August 13th incident in Puna.

As the Complaint alleges, Colson was charged with Unauthorized Entry In a Dwelling in the First Degree, which is defined as unlawfully entering a dwelling when a person over age sixty (60) is present. A review of court records indicates that at the time of his arrest Colson was on supervised release for unrelated felony matters stemming from a Waimea incident that occurred last month.

Last month Colson was charged with terroristic threatening, harassment, and various felony offenses. Those charges stemed from an incident that occurred on Monday, July 19, 2021, around 7:50 p.m., in a residential subdivision off Kohala Mountain Road in Waimea. Reports show a 58-year-old female victim reported that Colson verbally threatened her and drove off in a blue Jeep. Shortly thereafter, an 18-year-old female victim reported that while driving, she was followed and harassed by Colson who was operating the same blue Jeep.

North Kohala patrol officers later located Colson and the blue Jeep at Kawaihae Harbor. When attempting to arrest Colson for the reported terroristic threatening and harassment offenses, he resisted arrest, assaulted the responding officers, and fled on foot. A group of Good Samaritans assisted the officers, but Colson was able to flee the area.

Even with felony charges, Two of them being an assault on Law officers. Colson was released on supervised release by per diem Judge Joseph Florendo over the objections by the State Hawaiiʻs Prosecutors office.

Colson is scheduled to make his next initial appearance today in Hilo District Court. He remains in custody in lieu of $25,000.00 bail.

The investigation was handled by Puna Patrol, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Soong.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney remains dedicated to the pursuit of justice with integrity and commitment. Anyone having information to assist local law enforcement should call Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300 in East Hawai‘i or (808) 329-8181 in West Hawai‘i.
