During the week of June 21, 2021, through June 27, 2021, Hawai`i Island police arrested nineteen (19) motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Five of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 578 DUI arrests compared with 424 during the same period last year. This is an increase of 36.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 381 major accidents so far this year compared with 394 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.3 percent.
To date, there were 12 fatal crashes, resulting in 12 fatalities, compared with 10 fatal crashes, resulting in 10 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 20 percent for fatal crashes, and 20 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
